Reopening Guidelines and Procedures

Beginning June 15

The library will reopen with limited services and temporarily reduced hours starting June 15.

Please be aware that these procedures may need to evolve quickly and can change.

Updates will be posted on the library’s website.

We apologize that this is so long. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please read the information carefully as it details how some services have temporarily changed.

We are hoping to move progressively towards more regular services as health and safety guidelines allow.


The library’s temporary hours are:

Monday – Thursday 9:00am – 6:00pm

Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm

Saturday 9:00am – 1:00pm

The time between 9:00am – 10:30am, Monday – Saturday, will be reserved for patrons 65 and older and at risk individuals.


  • We are asking patrons to plan for visits of 15 minutes or less.
  • Everyone is encouraged to wear a mask to protect themselves and others while at the library.
  • Please practice social distancing while in the library. Six feet of space must be maintained between non-household members.
  • Patrons may be asked to wait to enter if the number of visitors in the library is at the limit to safely maintain social distancing.
  • Should the situation arise where patrons are waiting to enter, patrons that have been browsing for longer than 15 minutes may be gently reminded to hurry with their selections.
  • Visitors may browse the shelves with one person/household in an aisle at a time.
  • Social distancing markers will be in place throughout the library.
  • Staff will be cleaning frequently throughout the day.
  • “Sneeze guards” have been installed at the Customer Service Desk and Computer Stations.
  • All lounging type furniture and children’s toys have been temporarily removed.
  • Study stations have been temporarily removed.
  • The Genealogy Room is temporarily not available.
  • Meeting rooms are not available.
  • Kits will not be available for checkout.
  • All programs and events will be held virtually until further notice.
  • Information about the Cushing Library’s Summer Reading Program will be coming soon.

To Checkout

  • Patrons must have their library card to checkout material.
  • Items can be checked out on the East side of the Customer Service Desk.
  • Bags will be provided for library materials at checkout.

Returning Items

  • All items must be returned in one of the three book drops.
    • The drive-up book return in the alley.
    • The east door book return at the top of the front steps.
    • NEW! The indoor book return by the front entrance.
  • Material will not be accepted at the Customer Service Desk until further notice.
  • After items are returned they will be quarantined for 72 hours.
  • Fines do not accrue during quarantine.
  • Returned items will not be reflected on your account until the quarantine period is complete.

Computer Use

Computer users who are job seeking, completing school work or government paperwork, and/or seeking health or finance information will be able to use a public computer.

  • Only one person per computer will be allowed at a computer at a time.
  • Sessions have temporarily been reduced to 45 minutes to allow cleaning.
  • One session is allowed per day.
  • Keyboards are fitted with plastic coverings and must not be removed.
  • Computer components will be cleaned between each session.
  • Printing from the public computers is available as normal at 10 cents per page, maximum 50 pages, cash only.

Restrooms and water fountain

  • Restrooms will be open.
  • The water fountain will not be accessible.
